We are a small team in New Zealand (NZ time). We read every email and reply as soon as we can. To send feedback or tell us about a problem with the app, use Feedback and suggestions (in Study Cottage and Settings) or, on an error screen or the checkout summary, Having a problem? Tell us — see How do I send feedback? below for what it fills in for you. You can also just email us directly.
To report someone, use the app, not email. In the study room, tap ⋯ next to them in the In this room list (or long-press their row) and choose Report…. In-app reports reach our review queue directly, and we aim to handle each one within 24 hours.
If you email us about your account, please include your public ID, shown as ID in Study Cottage → Settings. We use it only to find your account. It does not prove who you are, so we will not delete or export an account because an email gives its public ID. Please do not send us your Apple ID password or any other password.
Delete your account
- Open the app and sign in.
- On the campus, open Study Cottage → Settings.
- Tap Delete my account.
- Read what will be removed, then confirm.
This works even if your account is banned.
What happens next
- You are signed out on all your devices within about 30 seconds.
- Most of your personal data is deleted from our main database, or anonymised, straight away. The rest is deleted within 72 hours. Your study history is anonymised, so it can no longer be linked to you.
- A few safety records (reports, ban records and the security audit log) keep only a one-way code instead of your account ID, for the periods listed in section 11 of the Privacy Policy.
- We tell Apple to end the Sign in with Apple link for LearnTogether.
- Everything finishes within 72 hours. Backups expire within 28 days.
- On your iPhone, the app forgets your sign-in and its install ID, and clears unsent actions, any exported file and any reminders it has set. App preferences, such as your Share app usage data choice, stay until you delete the app.
- If you sign in again later with the same Apple ID, you get a new, empty account. Your old data does not come back.
Can't open the app? You can stop using Sign in with Apple for LearnTogether: in iOS Settings, tap your name, then Sign in with Apple (on some iOS versions it is under Sign-In & Security), choose LearnTogether and follow the steps to stop using it. This signs you out everywhere and deletes the Apple token we keep. It does not delete your account or records. To delete them, sign in again with the same Apple ID and follow the steps above. If you have trouble signing in, email us and we will help you get back into the app so you can delete the account yourself. We cannot delete an account by email, because an email cannot prove that the account is yours.
If you delete your Apple Account, Apple tells us, and we delete your LearnTogether account too.
Export your data
- Open the app and sign in.
- On the campus, open Study Cottage → Settings and tap Export my data.
- The app prepares a file (JSON). Tap Save my data to save or share it with the share sheet.
The file contains the information linked to your account that we hold on our servers. It includes, among other things, your profile and appearance, age group, seat sessions and round results, your tasks and "See you tomorrow" plans, study days and totals, blocks and reports you made. It leaves out other people's internal IDs.
Banned accounts can export too.
Why only in the app? Starting with app version 1.3, you can choose to add an email address (see Can I add an email address? below), but that doesn't change how we confirm a request is yours: signing in with your Apple ID is the only way we know a request really comes from you, so an email — even from the address we have on file, or one that names your public ID — can't export or delete your account on its own. If you can't use the app, email us and we will work with you.
If you only browsed
We keep nothing on our servers that is linked to you. Open Study Cottage and tap Clear browsing data on this device (shown while you are signed out) to remove the app's saved preferences from your iPhone and reset any outfit you tried on. It keeps the app's install ID (never sent while you browse) and the age-check lock, if they exist. Deleting the app removes its files. Items kept in the iPhone Keychain may remain after the app is deleted.
Report or block someone
- Report: in the study room, tap ⋯ next to the person in the In this room list (or long-press the row) → Report… → pick a reason (Harassment, Inappropriate appearance, Spam, Seems under 16, or Something else).
- Block: tap ⋯ next to the person (or long-press the row) → Block… and confirm. Neither of you sees the other's nods, waves, emoji, phrases or tasks any more, and you won't be placed in the same room again. Blocking does not remove anyone from the room you are in now, and they are not told. See section 6.3 of the Terms of Use.
- Unblock: Study Cottage → Settings → Blocked → Unblock.
See the Terms of Use for the Community Guidelines and how bans work.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
Not to look around. You can browse the campus, see how many people are studying and try outfits on your Bookling. To join a study room, you need to sign in. Rooms need a lasting identity so that reports and bans work.
Why do I need to sign in?
Only to join a study room. A room needs a lasting identity so that reports and bans work — without one, someone banned for bad behaviour could just come straight back. Browsing the campus, seeing live numbers and trying on a Bookling need no account at all; you only sign in with Apple when you take a seat.
How do I delete my account?
See Delete your account above. In short: open Study Cottage → Settings → Delete my account and confirm — this works even if your account is banned, and finishes within 72 hours.
Why only Sign in with Apple?
It is quick and private. We don't ask Apple for your name. Starting with app version 1.3, if you choose to add an email address, the app may ask Apple for it — see Can I add an email address? below — but only if you choose to; otherwise we never get it. There's still no other sign-in method.
Why do I need to be 16 or older?
Study rooms are shared with people you don't know. We set the minimum age at 16. We ask your birth month and year once, keep only an age group, and discard the date.
Do I need a camera or microphone?
No. LearnTogether never uses your camera or microphone.
Can I chat with people?
No. There is no chat or private messaging, and you can't send free text to anyone. During focus time you can only nod. During breaks you can also wave, and send emoji and preset phrases. New people show a "first time here" label, so you can wave hello.
Can I choose my nickname?
Yes, starting with app version 1.3. Pick a nickname (3–16 characters) when you set up your account, and change it in Settings — at most once a month. People in your room can see it in the native list (never in the 3D classroom or on a Live Activity). Keep it civil: a nickname that impersonates or offends someone can be reported, the same as other behaviour, and may get your account banned — see the Terms of Use. Reports and blocks still use your public ID, not your nickname.
Before version 1.3, the app made a nickname for you and only you could see it.
Can I add an email address?
Yes — and starting with app version 1.3, once you've confirmed you're 16 or older, you need to add and verify one before you can take your first seat. Either let the app ask Apple for the email address linked to your Apple Account, or type one yourself and verify it with a 6-digit code we send you. Either way, we use it only to send one reminder per saved plan (such as See you tomorrow) and to send verification codes — never for marketing. If you're 16 or 17, that reminder and its codes are the only mail we ever send you.
Adding an email does not change how we confirm it's really you: Sign in with Apple is still the only thing that proves a request comes from your account. Even an email from the address we have on file, or one that names your public ID, does not prove the account is yours.
To stop: remove your email address, or turn off email reminders, any time in Settings — this takes effect immediately, and nothing more is sent to it.
What can other people see about me?
Your Bookling, your study direction, your tasks and how many you've finished, and your status (Focusing, On a break or Be right back). Starting with app version 1.3, they can also see your nickname in the native list (never in the 3D classroom or on a Live Activity). They still can't see your stats, your age group or your location. See section 6 of the Privacy Policy.
Can I hide my tasks?
Yes. Your tasks are visible to your room by default. Turn off Show my tasks to my room in Today's Tasks.
Can I keep a private note for today?
Yes. From version 1.0.1, Today's Tasks has an optional private note: one line for today, just for you. It stays only on your iPhone — we never see it, and it isn't included in your data export. It's removed automatically after 4 a.m. local time (when the next task day starts), when you sign out, or when you delete your account.
How are rooms chosen?
Our server picks a room for you. It fills busier rooms first, up to 16 seats. When rooms are full, it opens a new one.
How do the rounds work?
Everyone focuses for 25 minutes and then takes a 5-minute break, starting at :00 and :30 each hour. When you sit down, you choose how many rounds you plan (up to 6). If fewer than 10 minutes are left in the current round, you join the break first and start with the next round. While the app is open, you stay for every round you planned. If you step away during a break, tap Continue on the notification; when you come back, the app takes your seat back (or tap I'm back if it shows). You can check out at any time.
What if I lock my phone?
That's fine. If you allow notifications, the app reminds you when the break starts: tap Continue on the notification to keep your seat. You can also open the app during the break. If you miss the break, your seat shows Be right back for one round. Come back during that round and the app keeps your seat. Otherwise your session ends.
Does the app know if I switch away during a round?
From version 1.0.1, while you are focusing, the app checks, using only Apple's public, on-device tools, whether you have switched away from it, and reports per round how many seconds you were away (in seconds only, never a log of what you did). It can't see what you did in another app, only that you left this one. The Lock Screen counts as staying focused, and so does anything it can't tell. This is shown only to you; nobody else in the room is told. See section 4.4 of the Privacy Policy.
What does "I'm studying on my phone" do?
Turn this on from version 1.0.1 if you're studying using your phone itself — for example reading in another app — instead of a computer or paper. The round still counts as focus time instead of being reported as away.
Why does my screen stay on in the study room?
So you can see the countdown and stay for every round you planned. The study room keeps your screen on while it is open. Turn off Keep screen on in the study room if you prefer. Your iPhone locks as usual when you leave the room or check out.
What does "Be right back" mean?
If you miss a break and don't come back, your seat shows "Be right back" for one more round. If you return during that round, you keep your seat: the app takes you back when you open it, or you can tap I'm back. If not, your session ends.
When does a new day start?
At 4 a.m. local time on your iPhone. Late-night study counts toward the day before. You don't choose a time zone. The app follows your iPhone's time zone.
Will I lose anything if I miss a day?
No. There are no streaks. The app counts your total study days, whether or not they are in a row.
What is "See you tomorrow"?
When you check out, you can tap See you tomorrow to plan to come back at the same time tomorrow. If you allow notifications, the app reminds you shortly before. Others only see a count of how many people are coming. You can cancel it in Today's Tasks (swipe left on it).
What is the checkout question?
From version 1.0.1, sometimes when you check out we ask "Did you feel someone was studying with you this round?" It's optional, and we don't ask every time. If you answer, we store it with that round's result. See section 4.4 of the Privacy Policy.
What's in an invite link?
From version 1.0.1, if someone shares a LearnTogether invite link with you (learntogetherapp.com/join), it carries only that round's start time. The page reads only that value, to show it in your own time zone; it doesn't store or send anything, and sets no cookies.
Does the app send notifications?
Only if you allow them. The app first explains what its reminders are for, and then iOS asks for your permission. It reminds you when a break in your planned rounds starts, with a Continue button that keeps your seat, and shortly before a "See you tomorrow" plan. Reminders are set on your iPhone. We don't send push notifications, and reminders send nothing extra to our servers. The app works the same without them. To turn them on or off, go to iOS Settings → Notifications → LearnTogether.
Can I turn off usage data?
Yes. In Study Cottage → Settings, Share app usage data (renamed Share usage data and crash reports from version 1.0.1) is off by default. Version 1.0 does not send usage events either way. We record your choice with your account so later versions respect it. You can switch it off at any time. See section 4.7 of the Privacy Policy.
What does "Share usage data and crash reports" send, and how do I turn it off?
From version 1.0.1, this setting in Study Cottage → Settings is off by default. When it's on, the app may send a closed list of about ten usage events (such as which screen you opened or a step in signing in — short labels and small numbers only, never free text, your nickname or your tasks' wording) and, if the app crashes, a crash report (the stack trace, your device model, and your iOS and app version — never your account ID, your language or time zone, or any identifier of you or your device). Crash reports are processed by our crash-reporting provider, Sentry. The setting counts once you have answered the app's first-launch question, "Help improve LearnTogether?". Turning the setting off stops both immediately. See section 4.7 of the Privacy Policy.
Does it work offline?
The countdown keeps running, and a Continue tap made while offline is sent when you reconnect. Room updates come back when you reconnect.
Is it free?
Yes, the study room itself is always free, with no ads. Starting with app version 1.3, LearnTogether Plus is an optional paid subscription — see the Terms of Use for price, trial and cancellation.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone with iOS 17 or later. Android is not available yet.
How do I send feedback?
Use Feedback and suggestions in Study Cottage or Settings, or, on an error screen or the checkout summary, Having a problem? Tell us. Either one opens Apple's own Mail app addressed to us, with your app version and build, your iOS version, your device model (a hardware identifier such as iPhone15,2) and the screen you were on already filled in. You can see, edit or delete any of this, and add your own message, before sending — nothing is sent unless you send the email, and we never add your account ID. If your iPhone has no Mail account set up, the app shows our support address, which you can copy, and a link to this page instead.
Something isn't working
Try closing and reopening the app, and check your internet connection. If the problem stays, use Feedback and suggestions (or Having a problem? Tell us if you see it) — see How do I send feedback? above — or email [email protected] with your iPhone model, iOS version and app version. You can find the app version in the app under Study Cottage → Help, or in iOS Settings → General → iPhone Storage → LearnTogether.
