Terms of Use
LearnTogether: Study Room
Operated by TIMEAWAKE LIMITED, New Zealand
Effective date: 12 October 2026 · Version: 1.0
1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and TIMEAWAKE LIMITED ("we", "us"), a New Zealand company at 21 Longshore Drive, Long Bay, Auckland 0630, New Zealand. Email: [email protected].
They cover the LearnTogether: Study Room app ("the app") and the services behind it. They include the Community Guidelines in section 5, which you agree to in the app before you take your first seat.
Your licence to use the app itself comes from Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (section 13). These terms add the rules for using our service. They do not replace Apple's standard licence.
By using the app, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.
2. Who can use the app
- You must be 16 or older to sign in and join study rooms.
- You must give a true birth month and year when the app asks.
- Anyone can browse the campus without signing in. The Privacy Policy (section 3) explains what we collect while you browse.
- If the age check shows that you are under 16, we delete your account. If we find out in another way, for example through a report, we will ban your account.
- Crew requires you to be 18 or older, even though signing in and joining study rooms only requires 16+ (section 3).
3. What the app is
LearnTogether is a place to study quietly alongside real people.
- You join a shared study room of up to 16 people. Our server picks the room. You cannot pick a room.
- Everyone follows the same rhythm: 25 minutes of focus, then a 5-minute break, starting on the hour and half hour.
- Each person appears as a Bookling. In version 1.0 a Bookling is a simple coloured badge. From version 1.1 it is a small character in one of 8 colours and one of 2 outfits, which you pick when you first open the app and can change in the Wardrobe.
- There are no cameras, no microphones, no chat and no private messages, and apart from your nickname (starting with app version 1.3, see below), you cannot send or show free text to other people. With others you can only use preset actions: nods, waves, emoji, preset phrases, and tasks built from preset choices; other than the nickname, the app has no free-text field.
- Starting with app version 1.3, you choose your own nickname (3–16 characters) when you set up your account, and can change it in Settings at most once a month; before that, the app made one for you. Your nickname must not impersonate anyone else or be offensive (section 5.3); a nickname that breaks this can be reported and acted on like any other behaviour.
- The app does not guarantee any study result.
LearnTogether Plus. The study room, tasks and records are free. Starting with app version 1.3, you can also buy LearnTogether Plus, an optional auto-renewing subscription sold through the App Store at $14.99 per year or $1.99 per month (price as shown in the App Store for your country). New subscribers get a 7-day free trial, once per Apple ID. The subscription renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the current period ends; manage or cancel it any time in your Apple Account's Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. Payment is charged to your Apple Account. Apple, not us, handles billing, trial eligibility and refunds — contact Apple for a refund. If we add other paid features later, they will also be sold through Apple and come with their own terms.
Private rooms. Starting with app version 1.3, LearnTogether Plus lets you create a private room with a fixed weekly time. As the room's owner, you are responsible for who you invite and approve, for the room's schedule, and for your members' conduct in it meeting the same Community Guidelines (section 5) as the rest of the app — we can still act directly against any member who breaks them. Members can leave, and you can remove a member, at any time.
Crew. Starting with app version 1.3, Crew is our optional social-interactions feature for accounts 18 or older (section 2). Like the rest of the app, it offers only preset interactions — no free text and no direct messages.
Beta. Version 1.0 is first offered as a TestFlight beta. During the beta, features may change, break or be removed. Apple's TestFlight terms also apply to the beta.
4. Your account
- You sign in with Apple. Your account is linked to your Apple ID.
- One account belongs to one person. Do not share, sell or transfer your account.
- You are responsible for what happens on your account.
- You can sign out, export your data or delete your account at any time in the app. See the Support page.
- If you delete your account and sign in again later, you start a new, empty account.
5. Community Guidelines
These guidelines keep rooms calm and safe. You agree to them before you take your first seat.
5.1 Zero tolerance
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behaviour. If you break these guidelines, we may ban your account straight away, without a warning.
5.2 No free text between people
The app has no chat and no private messages, and apart from your nickname (starting with app version 1.3, which is limited to 3–16 letters and digits and can be reported, section 3), nothing you send or show to other people is free text. Interactions use preset options only. This is on purpose. It greatly reduces harassment, spam and unwanted contact. Some preset interactions, such as a nod or a wave, go only to the person they are sent to, so section 5.3 still applies to them.
5.3 Do not
- harass, bully, intimidate or target anyone, including by repeatedly sending nods, waves, emoji or phrases to someone who does not want them;
- try to get around the no-free-text design, for example by spelling out messages with task choices or reactions;
- try to identify, find or contact another user outside the app;
- choose a nickname that impersonates another person or any organisation, or that is offensive;
- give a false age, or use the app if you are under 16;
- create a new account (for example with another Apple ID) to get around a ban;
- make false or bad-faith reports;
- use bots, scripts or modified apps, fake your study time or status, or exploit bugs;
- interfere with the service, test its security without our permission, or collect data from it;
- copy, reverse-engineer or resell the app, except where the law allows it;
- break any law, or encourage anyone else to break these guidelines.
5.4 Be kind
Everyone in the room is trying to focus. Say hello during breaks if you like. Leave people alone if they don't respond.
6. Reporting, blocking and bans
6.1 Report
In the study room, tap ⋯ next to the person in the In this room list (or long-press the row) and choose Report…. Pick a reason: Harassment, Inappropriate appearance, Spam, Seems under 16 or Something else. You can report anyone you were in a room with during the last 24 hours.
6.2 How we handle reports
- We aim to handle every report within 24 hours. Handling means a person reviews the report and decides what to do.
- Reports about possible under-16 users, or about unwanted contact, go to the top of the queue.
- We may close a report without action, or ban the account.
- We do not tell the reported person who reported them.
6.3 Block
In the study room, long-press the person's row in the In this room list and choose Block. After that:
- neither of you receives the other's nods, waves, emoji or preset phrases;
- neither of you sees the other's tasks, task updates or a "studied together" (familiarity) label for the other;
- blocking does not remove anyone from the room you are in now, and the other person is not told;
- when we assign rooms later, our server will not put you in the same room. If it has to, it opens a new room instead;
- you can unblock them later in Study Cottage → Settings → Blocked.
6.4 Bans
If we ban your account:
- you are removed from your room at once;
- you cannot take a seat, send interactions, report or block;
- signing in on another device does not lift the ban;
- you can still sign in to export your data and delete your account.
Version 1.0 has bans only. There are no warnings or temporary limits. We may lift a ban if we find it was a mistake.
6.5 Appeals
If you think a ban is wrong, email [email protected]. Include your public ID, shown as ID in Study Cottage → Settings. We will review the ban and reply.
7. What others see
People in your room can see your Bookling, your study direction, your tasks and how many you have finished, and your status (Focusing, On a break or Be right back). By default your tasks are visible to your room. You can turn this off with Show my tasks to my room in Today's Tasks. Starting with app version 1.3, they can also see your nickname on the native list (never in the 3D classroom or on a Live Activity); before that, nicknames were never shown. Your personal stats and age group are still never shown to others. The Privacy Policy has the full list.
You give us permission to show this information to people in your room, as described in the Privacy Policy.
8. Our content
The app, the Bookling characters, the art and the text belong to us or to our licensors. You may use the app only as Apple's standard licence (section 13) and these terms allow.
9. Changes to the app and these terms
- We may change, pause or stop parts of the app. During the beta this may happen often.
- We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top. If a change is important, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using the app after that, the new terms apply.
10. Ending this agreement
- You can stop at any time by deleting your account in the app.
- We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or the Community Guidelines, or if we stop offering the app.
- If we stop offering the app, we will try to give notice in the app first.
11. No warranty, and limits on our liability
- We provide the app "as is" and "as available". We do our best to keep it running, but we do not promise it will always work or be error-free.
- To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, study time or opportunities.
- Nothing in these terms removes rights you have by law that cannot be excluded. For example, if you are a consumer in New Zealand, this includes your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. The courts of New Zealand can hear disputes about them. If you live in another country, you may also have rights under your local laws.
13. Apple and the App Store
- If you got the app from the App Store, your licence to use it is Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. If you test the beta, Apple's TestFlight terms also apply.
- These terms are between you and TIMEAWAKE LIMITED, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for the app, its content, and its maintenance and support.
